Queens Park Rangers are interested in a deal to bring Chuks Aneke to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium this summer.
What’s the talk?
That’s according to a report by TEAMtalk, who claim that QPR, along with Reading, Coventry City, Middlesborough and Bristol City, are keeping a close eye on the situation of the 27-year-old Charlton Athletic forward ahead of a potential move in the upcoming transfer window.
The £360k-rated support striker has been offered a new deal at The Valley, with his current contract in south-east London due to expire next month, however, with a host of Championship sides interested in his services, it appears unlikely Aneke will remain at the club beyond the summer.
Bhatia must move
Considering just how impressive Aneke was for Charlton this season, it is unsurprising that a number of second-tier sides are considering a move for the former Arsenal forward this summer.
Over his 38 League One appearances this season, only 11 of which came as starts, the 27-year-old scored 15 goals, registered two assists and created three big chances, as well as taking an average of 2.3 shots and making 0.6 key passes per game.
As a result of these returns, the forward earned a seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.03, ranking him as Nigel Adkins’ fifth-best performer in the third tier of English football.
What makes his metrics all the more impressive is the fact that £5.4k-per-week Aneke only averaged a mere 40 minutes on the pitch over his 38 league fixtures, demonstrating that he very much has the ability to come on and change a game.
As such, it would appear highly advisable for Amit Bhatia to do all he can to get a deal over the line for the forward this summer, as Aneke very much seems to possess the ability to play an important role in QPR’s squad next season – as Mark Warburton looks to build a side capable of mounting a push for the play-offs.
And, with the man who Lee Bowyer dubbed as “unplayable” looking likely to be available on a free transfer, a move for the 27-year-old would not only improve Warburton’s options in attack, but would also be an extremely cost-effective signing for the Rs.
