Whilst the footballing world is in a state of uncertainty amidst the ongoing situation, this may represent the perfect opportunity for managers at clubs to really see what their entire squad is capable of.
And at Everton, Carlo Ancelotti will surely be keeping a close eye on some of the club’s young talents. Chief amongst them, Lewis Dobbin.

The 17-year-old is coming through the academy system at Goodison Park, and has earned some rave reviews along the way – not least from club icon David Unsworth.

Speaking back in October, the club’s U23s boss said of Dobbin: “I’ve been champing at the bit to get him involved. He’s going to be a top player, there’s absolutely no doubt about that. He showed little glimpses of his pace and movement and there is an awful lot to work with there. I think he’s got a very bright future.”
Quite the high praise indeed. And his record at academy level this season suggests he could provide Everton with some youthful energy and exuberance.
In 16 games in the U18s Premier League, he has scored 11 times and provided a further four assists, whilst he has shown his versatility by playing in four different positions, including: left-wing, right-wing, attacking midfield, and up front.
What could’ve been… Can you name the clubs these football legends almost joined?
As Everton fans have experienced before, throwing in a talented starlet into the deep end can bring rich rewards – Wayne Rooney being the biggest testament of that when he burst onto the scene as a fresh-faced youngster almost two decades ago. Whilst Dobbin may not be spoken about in that kind of bracket just yet, his potential is certainly there for all to see.
And with Ancelotti favouring a two-striker formation, bringing the teenager into the first-team fold could see him get ample opportunities. After all, Moise Kean has really flattered to deceive, with just one goal in 26 appearances to his name. It would surely do more good than harm by exposing Dobbin to the senior side, and watching him potentially take off.
With the Toffees in that spot of mid-table obscurity in the Premier League lying in 12th, unleashing Dobbin could provide the team with a bit of added spark and energy. If and when football does return, it’s surely something Ancelotti must consider.
Meanwhile, Ancelotti could find his Kalidou Koulibaly with swoop for this ace.
