Ex-West Ham United Employee has given his opinion on the possibility of selling Felipe Anderson this summer on the West Ham Way podcast (March 4th, 23:03).
What’s the word?
Anderson’s form has been rather up and down this season.
Across 23 games in all competitions, he has scored just once, in the 4-0 win over AFC Bournemouth on New Year’s Day, and registered five assists.
It is worth remembering, then, that the Hammers paid an initial then-club-record fee of £33.5m to bring him into the club.
And Ex’s co-host, Dave Walker, stated on the podcast that he would be tempted to cash in on the Brazilian this summer.
Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….
The club insider replied: “Part of me agrees with you. Part of me wants him to almost have one more season and shift out (Manuel) Lanzini and (Andriy) Yarmolenko over Anderson.
“Yarmolenko is older, 30-odd. Obviously we’re not going to get the same sort of money back as you would Anderson, but he’s on high wages as well.”
He added: “I think Anderson I’d almost like to have one more crack at it, because I think he could potentially be a very, very good player.
“But, if someone came in and offered £45m for him and we get our money back, I’d find that hard to turn down.”
Iron is ice-cold
The saying strike while the iron is hot is often applied to footballers, particularly those going through purple patches.
It allows the selling club to maximise the value of their asset and cash in on a rich vein of form.
The opposite is happening here.
Anderson has not had any sort of form all season and has provided just one goal and one assist in his last 15 league appearances.
That isn’t anywhere near good enough and one has to think that this is merely hyperbolic fantasy talk.
While he is still just 26 and has room to improve, there are unlikely to be suitors queuing round the block to take him off the Hammers’ hands.
They may well be stuck with him.
Meanwhile, West Ham fans have reacted to a big Jack Wilshere update!
