Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is getting back to his best at Liverpool.
On the chalkboard
The former Arsenal man sustained a serious injury last season and began the campaign as something of a bit-part player.
However, since an ankle injury that saw him miss three games, against Leicester City, Wolves, and Sheffield United, the England international has made nine Premier League appearances and is fast getting back to the form that convinced the Reds to pay £35m for him in 2017.
Across nine games in 2020, he has scored two goals and registered ten key passes – his numbers have been remarkably impressive.
Per WhoScored, in those games, he has scored just twice, but averaged 1.4 shots per game, 1.1 key passes, and 1.4 dribbles, along with 0.8 interceptions and 0.7 tackles.
It is remarkable to think that he hasn’t completed 90 minutes in any of those matches, playing a maximum of 85 minutes in the 2-0 win over West Ham United.
Nevertheless, he appears ready to take the league by storm in the coming months – that’s providing football returns to normal shortly.
No clues: Can you name the season these iconic Liverpool images belong to?
A huge boost
Oxlade-Chamberlain could very well be a key member of the starting XI next season.
And, really, it is about time.
Last term, he played just 19 minutes of league football because of a cruciate ligament rupture, and he is only just getting his mojo back.
But as his 2020 stats show, he can get forward, influence the game in the final third, and also make a key impact in defence, looking to win tackles and get the ball back wherever possible.
He cost a pretty penny when he was signed from Arsenal but he has now shown that he has the talent to deliver on that fee.
That is a major boost for Liverpool and it would have been for England too – that’s if the Euro’s hadn’t been postponed until 2021.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s move for this striker could destroy their front three!
